Why most RSS readers fall short

Browsers block direct access to most RSS feeds for security reasons (CORS). Traditional solutions route everything through servers—compromising privacy and creating bottlenecks.

Without extension
  • Can't add custom blogs
  • More limited on how many blogs you can follow

Questions?

No! Blogs Are Back works without the extension. You can follow blogs from our curated catalog (up to 25). To add your own blogs via URL, you'll need the extension—it handles the technical hurdles that browsers can't do on their own.

Without the extension, we need to fetch feeds through our servers (due to browser security restrictions). Server bandwidth is expensive, so we have to set reasonable limits. The extension lets your browser fetch feeds directly, eliminating that cost.

The extension only accesses RSS/Atom feed URLs when you're using the app. It doesn't track your browsing, inject ads, or collect any personal data. The code is open source so you can verify this yourself.

We'd love to support Safari! It requires a different development process (and Apple's approval), so it's on our roadmap but not available yet.

Yes, but mobile browsers don't support extensions. You'll have the web-only experience with its limits. For the best experience, we recommend using desktop with the extension.
